Abundantly Blessed - A blog about living well, doing good...and loving chocolate

When Melissa shared these thoughts about the real meaning of Christmas, it was at a time when I found myself at the peak of the hustle-bustle of getting ready for Christmas.  Obviously, you have to expect a certain amount of Christmas chaos when running a chocolate company.  But in truth, I found no less chaos in my former life in Corporate America (although that was more about year-end sales targets, budgets and strategic planning workshops rather than batches of moonshine truffles!).  Whatever it is in our lives that creates our “hurry hurry”, it is important to reflect on the beauty, peace, and true meaning of this glorious season.  I hope you and your families have a wonderful, blessed Christmas!

Season of Giving

A few weeks ago on my way home from work I walked by a corner drug store. I had my headphones in but I heard something. As I took my left ear bud out to listen more closely, I turned and saw the culprit behind the noise. A man bundled up in the frigid weather was ringing a bell and standing next to a red bucket.

Immediately I was taken back to childhood trips to Wal-Mart in Batesville, Arkansas during the Christmas season, when my mom or dad would give my brother, sister and I a dollar to put in the bucket.

Melissa and Chris first ChristmasLike many families, giving was incorporated to be a part of our holiday traditions and it is an important one. In a society that commercializes Christmas and turns what should a celebration of Christ into a celebration of ourselves, let us remember to give to those less fortunate.

As my husband Chris and I get ready to celebrate our first married Christmas together, we look forward to spreading cheer outside of our family by adopting a child from the Angel Tree. There is no greater blessing than to give to others.

There are so many ways to give back this Christmas season. Angels need adopting from the Salvation Army, blood banks need donors, and shelters need donations of food and clothing.

How does your family give back during the Christmas season?

Merry Christmas!

Melissa
