Abundantly Blessed - A blog about living well, doing good...and loving chocolate

Abundantly Blessed

And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.
2 Corinthians 9:8 (NIV)

I came across this verse well after I dedicated Bellafina Chocolates to children’s charities, and even after I named this blog.  When I read it though, I was struck by how these words so perfectly capture how I feel about my life.  I have been abundantly blessed in so many ways…a wonderful family, a comfortable place to live in a beautiful part of the country, good health, and the privilege to live in a country that enjoys personal and religious freedom to a degree that is found in few other places.  It is these abundant blessings that both inspire my desire to help others, and give me the ability to do it.

Jason Jessica MaddieTo illustrate the point, take the situation my friend Jason finds himself in.  I met Jason because he manages one of the stores that carry Bellafina Chocolates.  Last Christmas, he found himself reeling from the unexpected loss of his father, followed closely by the news that his precious 10-year-old daughter had cancer.  Oh and by the way…Jason and his wife Jessica were expecting their fourth child in just a few weeks.  Between a demanding job, Maddie’s chemo and radiation treatments at St. Jude, and trying to maintain some normalcy for their three other children, I don’t know how this family holds it all together.  I cannot imagine having the energy, time, or resources in this situation to focus on anything other than putting one foot in front of the other each day.

It is the plight of this family and dozens of others like them that inspired us to use Bellafina Chocolates to help ease their burdens just a bit.

Trout at CEEEvery Bellafina Chocolates purchase includes a contribution to children’s charities like Children Exceeding Expectations.  Some of these contributions fund a “once in a lifetime” trip to Disney World for families like Maddie’s or basic needs like a pediatric stroller not covered by insurance.

During this Thanksgiving season, it seems doubly important to reflect on the abundant blessings we have, and to consider how we can use these blessings to help those around us.  Even a simple gesture like providing Thanksgiving dinner to a poor family, buying a winter coat for a homeless child or selecting an ‘angel’ from the angel tree, can make a huge difference in that person’s life.  And just imagine if each of us did the little things that we could to help others.  What a difference our combined efforts would make!

I hope that you and your family have a blessed Thanksgiving!
